God’s Child

Gods child

One of my favorite Bible stories is Genesis 18. In this story, Abraham and Sarah are an elderly couple with no children. God tells Abraham that he and Sarah will have a child within the next year. Then Sarah LAUGHS at God! She is basically thinking, “You’ve got to be kidding! I’m old and worn out. My husband is old.” OK, Sarah doesn’t laugh directly AT God, but she laughs. God calls her on it, “Why are you laughing?” Then Sarah LIES and says she wasn’t laughing. So Sarah laughs at God, and then she lies to God, and what do you think God does? We have to wait until Genesis 21 to find that God was “gracious” to Sarah and she became pregnant in her old age and bore a son. Then we finally come to one of my favorite Bible verses,

Genesis 21:6 Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.”

What this says to me is it is OK to be a Christian and to laugh and have fun.  That is why I like the blog, God’s Child.

This is a Christian blog, complete with memory verses and Bible lessons.  But it also has jokes, and funny videos and gratitude. And unlike many Christian blogs, this one is not annoyingly self-righteous.

I am not totally in love with this blog. I like funny, and sometimes I like cute, but I don’t like 20 different fonts on the same page.  I am also not fond of blog “glitter”, something this blog has way too much of.  The memory verse for 12/14 is unreadable because it has been transposed into some type of glitter font.  Maybe it is just me, but I think too much cute makes this blog look like the work of a 13 year old teenie bopper, not a woman who has led a life with some incredible challenges, and has a real message to share. (Read Cathy’s story ).

My recommendations for God’s Child. Keep the jokes, (especially keep that video!) keep the testimonials, keep the memory verses, and keep the bible lessons.  Pick just one or two fonts, don’t mix purple and red, and lose the glitter.
